Laughing gas, also known as nitrous oxide, is a dental sedative that is great for those who are terrified of the dental office and everything associated with it. This sedative is generally used when patients need treatments that are nerve racking or uncomfortable. When you come to our office, our dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to deeply inhale for a few minutes. As you breathe, you will feel:
• Light headed
• Tingly
• Relaxed
• Calm
• Comfortable
• Like your arms and legs are heavy
This sedative will not make you sleep. You will stay awake throughout the entire treatment and you will be able to understand the dentist as well as communicate whenever you feel is necessary. Once your treatment is completed, the dentist will remove the mask and the sedative will quickly wear off. When you are ready, you will be able to drive yourself home.
