There are some extreme cases where a tooth has been so badly decayed and damaged that Dr. Ellis K. List’s only viable course of treatment is to completely extract the tooth.
After everything has healed up he can then help you understand your restoration options. While some people might choose a bridge, many choose to receive a dental implant.
Your jaw structure will be assessed to make sure you have enough bone material to secure a dental implant. If the extraction process also called for removing some bone tissues in the socket, you might need to receive a bone graft to restore the missing structure.
To place the implant, a careful incision will be made in your gums. A narrow channel is made into the bone where a titanium implant is then screwed into the channel in the bone and your gums are sutured closed. Titanium is known for being biologically safe and will actually fuse with your natural bone in a process known as osseointegration.
Once your gums have healed and the titanium implant has been fully integrated into the surrounding bone tissues, Dr. List will take an impression. This will be sent to a dental lab where a permanent crown will be fashioned from porcelain, gold or base metal alloys.
